Let's see what yummy ingredients you'll need for this quick and tasty pasta!
Ingredients:
- 2 and 1/2 cups of uncooked mostaccioli (or penne) pasta
- 8 bacon strips, cut into small squares (diced)
- 1 jar of whole mushrooms, drained (get the water out)
- 3/4 cup of half-and-half cream
- 1/3 cup of butter, cut into small cubes
- 1 teaspoon of dried parsley
- 1 teaspoon of minced garlic (very tiny pieces of garlic)
- 6 to 8 drops of hot sauce (just a little bit for flavor!)
- 1/2 teaspoon of salt
- 1/3 cup of Parmesan cheese
- 1/4 cup of sliced green onions (for on top)
- 4 and 1/3 cups of water (for cooking the pasta)
Directions:
Let's make this quick and yummy Pasta Carbonara!
Cooking the Bacon and Mushrooms:
1. Get a large frying pan and put it over medium heat on the stove. Add the diced bacon to the pan and cook until it is crispy.
2. Use a slotted spoon to take the crispy bacon out of the pan and put it on a paper towel to drain. Leave the bacon drippings (the fat from the bacon) in the pan.
3. Add the drained mushrooms to the pan with the bacon drippings and cook until they are browned.
4. Take the browned mushrooms out of the pan and put them on a paper towel to drain, just like the bacon.
Cooking the Pasta:
5. Get a separate pot and put the 4 and 1/3 cups of water in it. Put this pot over high heat on the stove. Add the 1/2 teaspoon of salt when the water starts boiling.
6. Once the water is bubbling hard (full boil), add the pasta. Stir it right away so the noodles don't stick together!
7. Let the pasta boil for about 7 minutes until it's cooked. As soon as it's cooked, drain the hot water out right away and transfer the drained pasta into a bowl.
Making the Cream Mixture:
8. Go back to the frying pan (the one you used for bacon and mushrooms). Add the cream, butter cubes, dried parsley, minced garlic, pepper sauce (hot sauce), and a dash of salt.
9. Cook and stir this mixture over medium heat until the butter melts.
Combining Everything and Serving:
10. Add the cooked pasta to the cream mixture in the frying pan and stir it together.
11. Add the fried bacon, browned mushrooms, and Parmesan cheese to the pan.
12. Gently mix everything together until it's all mixed up (toss gently).
13. Serve your pasta right away! Sprinkle the chopped green onions on top.
Making pasta is a great way to learn how to put different flavors together for a tasty meal. Following the steps helps you mix, cook, and combine everything to make something delicious that's ready to eat quickly! Get ready to twirl some yummy pasta!
