Ingredients:
- 3 cups of self-rising flour, plus extra for dusting
- 1/4 teaspoon of salt
- 1 teaspoon of baking powder
- 2/5 cup of butter, cut into cubes
- 3 tablespoons of caster sugar (fine sugar)
- 3/4 cup of milk
- 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract
- 1 teaspoon of lemon juice

Serve with:
- Jam
- Clotted cream (a rich, sweet kind of butter)

Directions:

1. Prepare Dry Ingredients: Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Sift the flour, salt, and baking powder into a large bowl.

2. Combine Dough: Add the cubed butter to the flour mixture. Mix the butter into the flour using a pastry blender or your fingertips until the mixture becomes crumbly. Add the caster sugar and stir.

3. Add Wet Ingredients: Warm the milk and mix it with the vanilla extract and lemon juice. Add this warm milk mixture to the flour mixture. Combine everything without overmixing!

4. Shape and Cut Scones: Transfer the dough to a lightly floured surface. Knead it gently and shape it into a 7-inch (18cm) round. Use a cookie cutter to cut the dough to make individual scones.

5. Glaze and Bake: Place the scones on the prepared baking sheet. Glaze the top of each scone with a little milk (this helps to brown the top of the scones in the oven). Put the scones in the preheated oven and bake for 18 minutes or until nicely browned.

6. Cool and Serve: Remove the scones from the oven and transfer them to a wire rack to cool down. Serve them with a dollop of clotted cream and your favorite jam. Lovely!

Baking traditional treats like these is a truly delightful kitchen experience! You get to mix yummy ingredients, shape the dough, and bake it golden, then enjoy the perfect snack. Get ready to enjoy your delicious creation with a nice cup of tea!
