Have you ever wanted to be a real hero and save someone's life? In the Operate Now: Arm Surgery game, you get to step into a super busy emergency room at St. Flak's Hospital! A young woman has just arrived with a very badly hurt arm, and it's up to you to help her.
Your big job in this game is to be a new doctor working with Lara, the head nurse. You'll need to race against time to fix the patient's arm. Your mission is to perform a special arm surgery to make sure she gets better and can use her arm again!
You'll use your mouse to click on different tools and drag them where you need them. Lara, your head nurse, will give you important instructions on how to follow each step of the way.
First, an emergency patient will arrive with a hurt arm. Lara will quickly check on her to make sure she's okay for now. Your first big task is to find the right X-ray! There are lots of mixed-up patient files, but Lara will tell you the patient has an "arm problem," which is your clue. You'll need to look closely at the X-ray to see what kind of break it is. Lara might even mention that there are "shattered bone fragments" that need to be taken out.
Once you know about the break, it's time to get ready for surgery! First, you'll need to use scissors to carefully cut and remove the patient's sleeve. This helps keep everything clean and makes it easier to see her arm.
Next, you'll put a special band called a tourniquet around the upper part of her arm. This helps stop too much blood from coming out. You'll need to pick it up, put it in the right spot, and then "turn it ON."
After that, you'll make the arm super clean by using tongs to grab a cotton ball, dip it in a blue liquid called antiseptic, and then rub it all over the arm.
Now comes the careful part! You'll use a scalpel to make a small cut along a special line. Then, you'll use a special tool called a bovie to gently stop any bleeding by clicking on tiny veins.
After that, you'll use clamps to gently open the wound more, so you have plenty of room to work. Look for a bluish tube – that's a nerve! You need to be super careful with it. You'll use a special string to gently move the nerve out of the way so it doesn't get hurt. If the nerve gets hurt, the patient might not be able to feel her arm or hand anymore.
Next, you'll use tongs to carefully pick out all the tiny, broken bone pieces, one by one, and place them on a tray. This is like cleaning up tiny puzzle pieces! Then, to fix the bone, you'll gently pull the patient's hand. This helps the muscles and skin around the bone push it back into the right place.
After that, you'll put a metal fixation plate on the bone. You'll use a drill to make small holes where marked on the bone, and then you'll put screws into those holes. Finally, you'll use a screwdriver to tighten all the screws, making the bone strong again!
When the bone is all fixed, it's time to close up the arm. You'll use a suture needle and thread to carefully stitch the wound closed, following the line where you made the cut.
This game offers an exciting peek into the world of emergency medicine and what it takes to save a limb. It's a challenging and rewarding experience that lets you be a vital part of a patient's recovery. Are you ready to take on the pressure and make a difference?
